Butcher duties and responsibilities
Butchers understand how to weigh and portion cuts of different kinds of meat. They are usually able to use equipment such as meat grinders, saws and other tools to break down meat into portions. Usually working in a shop or slaughterhouse, butchers are responsible for creating eye-catching displays in order to make their products enticing to customers.
Other duties and responsibilities of a butcher include:
Preparing, trimming, weighing and pricing up meat;
Cutting and boning a carcass;
Packaging meat and storing it correctly;
Discussing different cuts with customers, including how to cook and safely store them;
Keeping their working environment safe and storing meat in accordance with health and safety legislation;
Maintaining business records and budgets.
